Three-time Group One winner Sarafina has been retired following her fourth behind St Nicholas Abbey in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs earlier this month.
Bred and raced by the Aga Khan’s, Sarafina was favourite for this year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe but could only manage seventh behind German filly Danedream.
Trained by Alain de Royer-Dupre to win last season’s Prix de Diana and Prix Saint-Alary, Sarafina added the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud to her record this year.
“She’s a smashing filly and will be a lovely prospect to breed from,” Pat Downes, who manages the Aga Khan’s Irish division, told the Racing Post.
“We haven’t finalised a stallion for her but will probably have sorted something out in the next week or so and there’s a good chance she’ll come to Ireland to be covered.”
